God Answers Prayer for Lights

God Answers Prayer for Lights

This testimony comes from the Christmas season, but we share it here as its impact has continued well into the current season — you’ll notice the light it gives if you drive by Oakland Avenue in the evening!

We do all we can to give hope, joy, and peace to our community — especially during the time of Jesus’ birthday celebration.  What better way to represent the spirit of the season than to put up lights? At CCS this past Christmas, one congregation blessed us with enough funds for four large Christmas wreaths. But we had no lights and no money available in our budget for any more decorations, so we put the situation in God’s hands. “Lord, please supply us with some Christmas decorations to honor the ‘Light of Lights,’ Jesus.”

A friend of CCS then donated lights to string on our building. However, our electrician had other commitments and couldn’t hang them. The son of a staff member works for Herman & Goetz, an electrical company. She asked them if they would hang the lights for us. After getting started, they realized that these lights were battery-operated and wouldn’t work for our needs. But they didn’t stop there. They reached out again to us, purchased new lights, and hung them up — all without charging us a dime.

But even with that our blessings didn’t stop. The crew that was sent out to help us had some extra time between projects, so they fixed a number of other electrical items for us.

Finally, because they too wanted to bless our guests in some way, River Oaks Community Church donated money for four large outdoor Christmas wreaths and the Tri Kappa philanthropic sorority decorated our food pantry. It looked so festive.

How good is our God? What started as an appeal for a few Christmas decorations ended up with four Christmas wreaths, battery-operated lights for indoors, lights to decorate our building, repaired electrical issues, and a festive pantry. We didn’t get exactly what we asked for… God blessed us with more and better.

Yes, our God is an awesome God.
