Helping Flood Victims
Last week Elkhart County endured the worst flooding it has seen in 45 years, forcing many to evacuate their homes. On Friday afternoon we received a call regarding “Patty”, a 70-year-old woman who was a flood victim. Patty was quickly evacuated from her home and in her rush to leave, forgot her insulin. Due to safety issues, first responders would not allow her to go back into her home to retrieve the insulin that is critical to her health. Fortunately, along with assistance from a local church, our Financial Assistance Program was able to help Patty purchase new insulin. Church Community Services also supported emergency service workers helping flood victims, by supplying approximately 200 lbs of snacks, Gatorade and water to those working to assist people in need.
