Maintaining sobriety during COVID-19: Lori's story
We are so touched by questions from our supporters about how our Soup of Success participants and graduates are managing through the COVID-19 crisis. We've been in contact with everyone we can reach remotely and we asked participants to share how things are going. Here's what one participant, Lori, shared:
"It's been challenging for me being so isolated. I'm in recovery and I miss my recovery family. Especially the weekly meetings. Zoom has been great but it's just not the same. My anxiety has been another struggle." She explained that Soup of Success is supporting her through the quarantine, "SOS ladies have been so great! In just the short time I've built a support team that I know will always encourage and guide me. We stay connected through phone and social media. I really enjoy the weekly zoom meetings. It's so inspiring to see all the ladies and catch up on how everyone is doing. I've continued to succeed during this time by completing my addictions aftercare program. It's a huge accomplishment for me and they cheered me on and congratulated me. I'm still doing everything I have to for drug court as well as started therapy. Lots of good things are still happening even through this difficult time. I feel empowered and proud that I'm still succeeding." Lori says that since being in SOS she has "...learned that I'm so much stronger than I believed. I have confidence that I didn't have before SOS. I have goals and the ladies at SOS have encouraged me to go for them."
We are so proud of Lori and her continued sobriety during a very challenging time!
