Amazing Volunteer Corner - Sandra Sanchez

Back in February, Sandra Sanchez was looking for places to volunteer at.

“I found out about Church Community Services online,” Sanchez said. “I went to Goshen College to take classes on ESL (English Second Language). After I finished my course there, my teacher gave me the idea to volunteer somewhere. I looked at places online and when I read about CCS, my heart told me to apply there. I applied, and they called me asking if I could come the next day and I said yes!”

Sandra originally worked in the Food Pantry but has since moved to work with our Financial Services department as a Volunteer Counselor, where she assists clients with rent and utilities.

Sandra says one of the things that always brings her back to CCS is the feeling volunteering gives her.

“When I volunteer here, I feel peace,” Sanchez said. “These times have been hard for everybody, and I like to say, ‘If I can help with something, I know God is going to help me back.’ I’ve found a lot of good things after I started volunteering here.”

En febrero, Sandra Sánchez estaba buscando lugares para ser voluntaria.

"Me enteré de Church Community Services en línea", dijo Sánchez. "Fui a Goshen College para tomar clases de ESL (segundo idioma inglés). Después de terminar mi curso allí, mi maestro me dio la idea de ser voluntario en algún lugar. Miré lugares en línea y cuando leí sobre CCS, mi corazón me dijo que aplicara allí. Apliqué, y me llamaron preguntándome si podía venir al día siguiente y dije que sí".

Sandra originalmente trabajó en la Despensa de Alimentos, pero desde entonces se mudó a trabajar con nuestro departamento de Servicios Financieros como Consejera Voluntaria, donde ayuda a los clientes con el alquiler y los servicios públicos.

Sandra dice que una de las cosas que siempre la trae de vuelta a CCS es la sensación que le da el voluntariado.

"Cuando soy voluntario aquí, siento paz", dijo Sánchez. "Estos tiempos han sido difíciles para todos, y me gusta decir: 'Si puedo ayudar con algo, sé que Dios me va a ayudar a regresar'. He encontrado muchas cosas buenas después de comenzar a ser voluntario aquí".
